Screen Pinning, also known as App Locking or Pinning,
is a feature in Android that allows users to lock a specific app to the screen,
preventing navigation away from that app until it’s manually unpinned. This
feature is particularly useful for shared devices, ensuring that only the
pinned app can be accessed.
How Screen Pinning Works:
- Enabling
Screen Pinning:
- Go
to Settings > Security > Advanced > Screen
Pinning. - Toggle
the switch to enable Screen Pinning. - You
can optionally set a PIN, password, or fingerprint for unpinning. - Pinning
an App:
- Open
the desired app that you want to pin. - Press
the Recent Apps button (square button, or swipe up for newer
devices). - Select
the app icon and choose the Pin option. - Using
a Pinned App:
- Once
an app is pinned, the device will display only that app. Other functions
like the home button, back button, and app switcher are disabled. - Unpinning
the App:
- To
unpin the app, press and hold the Back and Recent Apps
buttons simultaneously (or equivalent combination, depending on device). - Enter
the security method (PIN, password, or fingerprint) if one is set. - Limitations:
- While
a pinned app is in use, only the app can be interacted with. Other apps
and system functions are inaccessible. - When
unpinning, any security set (like a PIN) must be entered to ensure the
unpinning process is secure.
Benefits of Screen Pinning:
- Prevents
unauthorized access to other apps or system functions. - Useful
for public devices, kids’ devices, or other scenarios where limiting
access is necessary. - Provides
a secure and easy way to control app usage.
